Reading Together Children’s Literacy Program
Trained volunteers work individually with children who are struggling with their reading and who would not otherwise receive extra help in school. Volunteers learn simple strategies aimed at increasing each child’s reading confidence.
We support School District 22’s goal that children will “read to learn” by the end of Grade 3.
Become a Reading Together Volunteer Tutor
More than 200 volunteers are at the heart of the Vernon Reading Together program.
The commitment is:
One and one-half hours, one morning or afternoon per week October to May
All tutoring is done during school hours, under the supervision of the teaching staff
Substitutes are available to fill in when tutors are ill or on vacation
All volunteers attend a 3-hour training session and must provide a completed criminal record check.
