Home Kits

The Home Kits of the Literacy Society of the North Okanagan have been designed for families to explore a variety of books and activities. Activities range from crafts, games, experiments, writing, etc. (Activities vary per kit)

The Home Kits are intended to be used with adult supervision and due to the nature of the activities and materials, are suitable for children 5 years and older. Due to small parts, they are not recommended for younger children.

Kits are due back after 3 weeks and can be returned to the Literacy Society office.

Dinosaurs

This Home Kit has a variety of books, crafts and science exploration activities that allow children and families to explore dinosaur related activities. Activities include both fact and fiction books about dinosaurs, material to become your own author, make your own dinosaur excavation, various craft projects as well as other activities and challenges.

Sea Creatures

Learn about a very creative octopus and build your own sea creatures, plus experiment with some science-based art projects all while reading several fun and interesting books about sea creatures. This kit contains a variety of books at varied levels, craft, science related art projects as well as a variety of other activities.

Weather

Want to build your own rain stick or tornado? Check out the Weather Home Kit! This kit contains a variety of books at varied levels, materials to build your own rain stick, build a tornado in a bottle, explore temperatures as well as many other activities.

Water

This Home Kit is full of science materials to explore a variety of water concepts such as surface tension, the adhesive properties of water, capillary action as well as a variety of books at various levels.

Butterflies

Come learn about butterflies while playing games, creating butterflies using science-based art activities, read interesting books, plus make your own book, complete with a caterpillar that crawls through the book.

Small Flying Crawling Creatures

Discover the fascinating world of bugs, from tiny crawlers to fluttering flyers! This kit is packed with books at varied levels, bug-themed crafts, games, and activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning about the many creatures that crawl and fly.

Indigenous Authors & Legends
