Digital Literacy
The Literacy Society of the North Okanagan provides adult digital support for individuals needing help with their personal digital devices such as; mobile phones, tablets, and laptops. Depending on the need and style of learning we offer small group workshops and/or direct one to one support.
Although there are many possible outcomes based on the diverse needs of the learners, we check for the following 4 basic benchmarks before moving on to other skills. If you or a family member feel you could benefit from support with your device, scroll down and click the button to book an appointment with the Literacy Society, or call 778-692-3117.

The Four Benchmarks

Goal 1
Ensure the learner has the ability to communicate with family, friends, and peers.

Goal 2
Ensure the learner can access the internet, online forms, and health information etc.

Goal 3
Ensure the learner can open various applications such as email, texting, video and entertainment platforms.

Goal 4
Ensure the learner understands how to use WIFI, data, and the internet safely.
Specifics of each goal could include the following skills…
- Setup and/or using an email account
- Sending and saving photos
- Searching the internet and saving links
- Understanding specific apps such as Facebook
- Basic settings and features of your device
- Creating folders and saving files
- Understanding your computer, android tablet or iPad
- How to be safe online and avoid scams
