Pig Tales: A FREE Family Literacy Event, April 18th

Join Us for Pig Tales, a playful family literacy afternoon inspired by beloved pig stories! Dive into the world of pigs and tales that will spark imagination and create lasting memories. Build, create, experiment, and enjoy a lively read-aloud together.

Get ready for a squeal-worthy afternoon of stories, STEM, and creativity. We’ll huff, we’ll puff, we’ll build, and we’ll read side by side!

This is a family event, so little piggies stay with their grown-ups as you explore the stations together. While siblings are welcome to join the fun, activities are best suited for ages 5–9.

More events coming soon!

We love connecting with families in our community through fun, hands-on literacy activities throughout the year. You’ll often find us at local events, fairs, and pop-ups, and we host special celebrations during Family Literacy Week each January.

Family Literacy Week 2025 Highlights

  • Sneezy the Snowman Story Walk at the Early Years Fair
  • Reading Together Parent Workshop
  • Literacy games, prizes, and family fun

We can’t wait to celebrate again next January with more free activities for families.

Our Family Literacy page is a place for parents, caregivers, and families to find opportunities, events, and practical support to help children grow as confident readers.

Literacy Tip for Parents: Sight Words

Sight words are common words that children need to recognize quickly, like theandsaid, or because. These words often don’t follow regular spelling patterns, so practicing them regularly helps build reading confidence and fluency.

Home Kits

Our Home Kits are designed to help families support reading and learning at home in a fun, low-pressure way.

Each kit includes books, hands-on activities, and simple ideas families can use together to build reading skills, spark conversation, and encourage a love of learning. Kits are created with different ages, interests, and learning styles in mind, making it easy to find something that fits your child.

Home Literacy Kits can be borrowed by families to use at home for a short period of time, giving children access to new books and hands-on activities without any cost.
