Family Literacy
Reading is a journey that families and communities take together.
Our Family Literacy page is a place for parents, caregivers, and families to find opportunities, events, and practical support to help children grow as confident readers.
Here you will find information about upcoming literacy events in our community, as well as opportunities to learn simple, effective ways to support reading at home.
Reading Together Parent Workshops

Our Reading Together Parent Workshops are designed to support parents and caregivers in helping their children develop strong reading skills at home.
These workshops are informal, practical, and encouraging. They focus on building confidence and sharing ideas that families can use right away, no special training required.
Workshops may be offered online (via Zoom) or in person.
What You’ll Learn:
- Easy ways to support reading at home
- Tips to make reading fun and stress-free
- What to do when your child gets stuck
- Fun games and activities to build reading skills
✅ All participants get a free digital resource pack including our new family literacy booklet.
Upcoming workshops
We typically offer at least two Reading Together Parent Workshops each school year.
Upcoming dates:
- January 27th, 2026 on Zoom – Register Now
Email coordinator@literacysociety.ca if you’d like to be notified of future Reading Together Parent Workshops.
Home Kits
Our Home Kits are designed to help families support reading and learning at home in a fun, low-pressure way.
Each kit includes books, hands-on activities, and simple ideas families can use together to build reading skills, spark conversation, and encourage a love of learning. Kits are created with different ages, interests, and learning styles in mind, making it easy to find something that fits your child.
Home Literacy Kits can be borrowed by families to use at home for a short period of time, giving children access to new books and hands-on activities without any cost.
Family Events
We love connecting with families in our community through fun, hands-on literacy activities throughout the year. You’ll often find us at local events, fairs, and pop-ups, and we host special celebrations during Family Literacy Week each January.
